All in all, acne is perhaps one of the most cruel conditions of the skin. It tends to strike young people during their most psychologically vulnerable years and it does so in a way that’s so very visible. Inasmuch, this condition can not only leave behind permanent scars on a person’s face, but also on his or her psyche.

The sad fact of the matter is that acne can cause severe embarrassment, emotional detachment, feelings of insecurity and more. It might seem silly to allow the condition to do this to oneself, but it can and does happen. Since it strikes young people most frequently during an age when they’re most insecure to begin with, acne can actually be pretty debilitating.

The psychological effects of acne have been described by some as monumental. Even though just about everyone in the world gets acne at some point in life or another, this fact seems to be of little comfort for the teen who just took an entire day of ribbing at the hands of those who are not so enlightened.
The psychological impacts of acne can include:

* Social withdrawal. Not wanting friends or family to see the person “in their condition.”
* A loss of self-esteem. Looks have a lot to do with how people feel. If a teen, especially, feels less than attractive due to acne, it can really be a big hit on the self-esteem level.
* Lowered self-confidence. When self-esteem plummets, this does too, and along with it comes a lessened body image.
* Feelings of depression. While it might not be clinical depression, symptoms that fall into this arena bear watching. Severe depression is characterized as that which lasts more than a few weeks. Acne in and of itself may or may not cause this, but when coupled with other factors, attention to the problem may be warranted.
* Anger, frustration. It’s hard to be pleased with the things around you when you’re not happy with yourself. This can present with feelings of severe anger and frustration with just about everything.

When acne is bad enough to create negative psychological effects, it’s most likely beyond time to treat the condition. Even if the person in question only has what most would characterize as “mild” breakouts, avoiding the impacts of the psychological symptoms often will benefit from treating the physical. Although there’s no single “cure” for acne, there are ways to lessen its presence. Seeking medical attention for the symptoms – both psychological and physical – is a good route to choose.

Acne control is all about education and effective products.

Acne control can happen when individuals strive to find the best possible skin care regimen as well as the best skin care products to use. From there, there are several ways in which individuals can find a way to control their acne successfully including through using products such as natural acne treatments and laser treatments. But, before you get that far, there are several acne treatments that you can do now to begin getting acne control for your body.

Natural Acne Treatments

The first thing to do is to use natural acne treatments. These will include a wide range of vitamins and minerals for your skin. You’ll find a good assortment of natural skin care products to help you right on the web. You should supplement any of these natural products with a good, well balanced diet and exercise. Because the actual acne on your face is infections of the skin, giving your body what it needs to fight them off is essential to actually getting rid of them.

Control Acne With A Good Skin Regimen

One of the most beneficial things that you can do when it comes to acne skin care is to use a good, solid cleansing regimen for your face. This will include antibacterial products and exfoliating products that will work to improve your face and your body’s look. These will help to kill off the bacteria that are causing your acne as well as get rid of the dead skin cells that the bacteria are feeding off of. Together, this can completely wipe your face and body clean of acne. Something to consider is Proactiv Acne Control which is an acne skin care line that has shown to be very good at acne control.

Finding the acne control for your needs is not easy. You may find that the best thing to do is to seek out alternative treatments such as laser treatments and chemical peels. Yet, for many, it can be more beneficial to work with a natural product for their skin care. If you visit your dermatologist, he too may have a different approach and one that may include acne medication. Many of these things can be effective at controlling acne.

Acne has a lot of research and people debating what the cause is. Conventional wisdom says that it’s greasy foods, like pizza and chocolate that causes it. Others think that it’s toxins in other parts of your diet and environment that causes it. However, there may be a link between cigarettes and smoking, at least according to one study.

Researchers in Rome, at the San Gallicano Dermatological Institute, have suggested that smoking tobacco cigarettes is a contributing factor to acne breakouts. In particular, they think it’s a cause of non-inflamed breakouts, like blackheads and cysts.

They performed a study that shows that among adults with acne, non-smokers were more likely to have inflammatory acne. Smokers, however, were significantly more likely to have non-inflammatory acne. These results point to a new entry in the long list of smoking related skin diseases. The researchers have begun to refer to this as “smoker’s acne.”

Their results show that 42% of smokers had some form of acne outbreaks, nearly four times that of non smokers. Cigarette smokers also seemed to develop acne of the non-inflammatory kind at a much higher rate than other adults who suffered from acne. If you looked just at the gender of participants in the study, nearly 80% of the women who suffered from this kind of acne were smokers.

The amount of smoking didn’t seem to matter on the amount of breakouts. People who smoked a little were just as likely to suffer from acne as those who smoked a lot. However, those who suffered from acne as a teenager or in high school, and were now smokers, did show a higher incidence of being affected now. In fact, they were nearly four times as likely to have acne problems now as their counterparts.

Of the non-smokers who suffered from non-inflammatory acne, nearly half of them were subject to other environmental factors that put them at higher risk for acne in general. This included working in restaurants or other places where smoke was prevalent.

The numbers were pretty compelling, particularly the finding that over 90% of smokers who had acne, had the non-inflammatory variety. And that those who did have non-inflammatory acne, over 82% were smokers. While it can be hard to prove beyond all doubt, this kind of evidence is hard to ignore.

Check out the next page to discover some very unconventional thoughts about how to control your acne naturally. Lots of natural cures work, but some don’t.
It’s a generalized term to describe a breakout caused by a blockage of the pores, but acne actually presents itself in a number of different ways. The severity of the different forms of lesions varies, but some are more likely than others to lead to lasting effects. All require common sense in treatment, however, and some are more likely to require medical attention.

Since acne is more complex than it might seem, the condition comes with its own vocabulary. It’s important to understand what’s what to be able to properly treat breakouts if and when they happen.

All types of breakouts can be clumped together using a single term: acne lesion. This generalization works for describing blackheads, whiteheads, cysts and even nodules. But what are each of these things?

Comedones are the least severe of the acne lesions. They include blackheads and whiteheads. These form when a sebaceous follicle gets plugged with sebum (oil and gunk), dead cells, hair and sometimes even bacteria. An open comedo is called a blackhead because the sebum is discolored and visible. A closed comedo is a whitehead; or a traditional pimple. The whitehead looks different because the pore is closed and inflamed. Neither of these should be picked, scratched or forced open as they can lead to infection and scarring.

A papule is a different kind of acne lesion that’s generally elevated and typically pretty small. When grouped, they are pretty visible. These typically don’t have a visible “head.” These should never be smashed or squeezed or the potential for permanent scars will present itself.

Pustules are generally dome like in shape and are filled with pus. If these don’t progress to cyst form and heal on their own, they tend not to scar. It’s important to not pop or smash these although it’s sometimes difficult not to do so during routine cleansing.

Nodules are similar to papules in appearance, but these are generally more inflamed and go deeper into the skin. These can be very painful and are typically associated with scarring. It’s typically suggested these be treated by medical professionals or at least with good topical products meant to handle more severe breakouts.

Cysts are generally the largest of the acne lesions and are responsible for pain and scarring. When these and nodules are present, it’s generally recommended that medical attention be sought to minimize the effects.

Acne presents itself in many forms. The condition might be best known for simple “pimples,” but in reality, there’s nothing simple about acne.

For those that are dealing with acne, having the necessary knowledge about where it comes from and how to treat it is the first step in solving this very difficult and often scarring condition. It is not easy to find a way to work through acne when you do not know if a product will work how it will work or what is causing the acne on your face. In fact, it is plain old frustrating. Yet, the good news is that you can learn and you can succeed with acne treatments.

What Causes Acne?

The first thing to understand is what is causing your acne. Now, some people are more prone to it than others and this may or may not be linked to family genes and just environmental issues. But, what causes these little infections on your face happens for a very specific reason. Acne is caused by bacteria that are attracted to your face. They are attracted to it because your skin is oily and warm. And, there are dead skin cell to feed on. They get onto your face, into your pores and make themselves at home. Your skin becomes irritated and there comes that frightening pimple.

What Will Make It Go Away?

There are several acne treatment options for you. First, acne control can come from natural acne treatments such as eating a well balanced diet and taking supplements that are geared towards acne treatment. These will include a good assortment of vitamins and minerals that are known to help with acne control.

Next, you can move on to treating the infections in your skin. To do this, your doctor may provide you with antibiotics. Or, there are also natural skin care treatments that can help as well. In either case, the bacteria that are there need to be destroyed. Finally, you can work on exfoliating your skin to remove all those dead cells that the acne is feeding off of.

There are many acne products that can help with these steps. The goal is to understand why it is happening to you then you can gear your acne treatment right at it and see results. Remember, though, it took time for your face to become in this condition and it will take time for the acne to heal fully as well.

Acne causes embarrassment and discouragement for millions of people. Most are in their teen years, but adults are affected, too. There are many choices of acne treatment on the market. Some are well formulated, while others are weak and ineffective. Finding the best acne treatment for your skin can improve your outlook, and your looks.

The best products for treating your acne are natural, gentle products. Look for botanical ingredients in the list. Some herbal ingredients that are healing to blemished skin include sage, yarrow, coltsfoot, wild thyme, horsetail, althea (or marshmallow), and balm mint (or melissa). Aloe vera is a well known skin healer, and is often included in good acne products.

Also valuable in a treatment remedy for acne are certain essential oils. Some essential oils are harsh for skin. (None should be used straight, but should always be diluted with a carrier oil!) The best acne treatment products might include oils such as lavender, rose, tangerine, and geranium. These are not only healing to the skin, but will make the product smell great, too.

If the product is made with a transdermal system, any vitamins or herbal ingredients will be able to absorb into the skin and treat the acne where it starts. Some vitamins that might be included in a topical acne treatment include vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin E, and pro vitamin B5.

Just like healthy food for the body, the best acne treatment will provide nourishment and nutrition directly to the skin. The skin tends to reveal the health of a person. What shows up on the outside often indicates a deficiency or need on the inside. Getting a healthy diet can help you overcome your acne, and is a good addition to make to your use of good products.

Even the best products, however, won’t clear up that acne if they are used inconsistently. It’s a good idea to get into the routine of taking your vitamin supplements and cleansing your face every day. Don’t let procrastination or disorganization leave you without time for taking care of yourself. The skin is the largest organ in the body. It is a major agent in removing toxins from the body. It needs to be pampered and cared for.

A moisturizer is also an important part of an acne treatment. Like other components, it needs to be 100% natural, or it can make matters worse by contributing to clogging the pores. Make sure you take the time to read the label to make sure the ingredients are natural botanicals, nutrients, and healthful oils.

Some people say you should try to use only products on your skin that you would be willing to put in your mouth. This might not always be the case, since the skin does act like a filter, while absorbing nutrients and other substances. Still, one should be cautious about using unnatural products.

As a common skin condition, acne has the power to dramatically impact a teenager's life. It is estimated that 85% of adolescents have acne. While adults know acne will pass, this is a small consolation to the teenager who suffers from shame, worry, decreasing the confidence or even depression as a result. We as parents should be supportive, but that's not enough. Parents have to provide information and guidance about how to treat acne. TREATMENT In most cases, can drastically reduce the effects of acne. Unfortunately, acne is not a "panacea for all" in the solution. There are many types of acne, because it is even more types of methods. It is important for you to help you determine what your teenager is experiencing to help make appropriate decisions regarding the direction of treatment. New drugs have been developed since we were teenagers. What worked for us may not work for today's teens. The best news is that most common acne conditions can be easily brought under control even if you can not completely cure. Your teenager is trying, no doubt, everything imaginable to control your acne. It is important to remember, even if your child is asking for your help, he / she still wants him. To support the approach his son, not accusatory. Myths about oily foods, chocolate, or sex causing acne has been proven false. Even the discussion of their personal experiences with acne may help minimize stressors for your child and help to "humanize" what he / she is more comfortable talking about it. It is also wise to advise your teenager that most acne sufferers are not alone. 85% of teens with acne caused 40% of cases are severe enough to require professional treatment by a dermatologist. Consult a dermatologist is prudent to reassure your teen. Although the spots on the skin of your teen acne are more likely, the possibility exists that the condition could be something else. A dermatologist can make a definite diagnosis, and treatment options as possible. If your teen has tried more than a few-the-counter medications with little or no success, encourage him / her to seek advice from a dermatologist. A dermatologist can recommend an alternate, only prescription cream, lotion, or even oral medications to help clarify the status and offer relief from physical distress. The most important thing is to remind your teenager that acne does not last forever. As a teenager approaching his 20s, acne should be a thing of the past.

Mild cases of acne can be treated by creams or ointments. Treatments for more severe cases may include oral antibiotics, ointments, and physical treatments such as drainage or chemical peels. Physical treatments should be performed by a dermatologist. While the grains burst can be considered as physical treatments, is certainly not advisable. It can cause the bacteria that causes acne to spread and result in scarring. Physical treatments administered by a professional under controlled conditions will be less risky and more effective. Exfoliation Exfoliation is basically removing the top layer of skin, either with chemicals or abrasion. General chemical peels use salicylic or glycolic acid. Destroying a microscopic layer of skin cells to help unclog pores and remove dead cells. Glycolic acid treatments are generally performed in the course of several months, with a treatment every 2 to 4 weeks. Salicylic acid treatments are not as strong and can be used daily. They are often found in common over-the-counter treatments. Comedo comedones extraction – also known as whiteheads and blackheads – can be removed by a dermatologist. An anesthetic cream is applied to the immediate area and the comedones are removed with an instrument that opens the top, allowing the sebum and dead skin cells are removed. This is usually followed by application of an antibiotic cream. Drainage severe acne can lead to the formation of cysts under the skin, which can be painful and disfiguring. Small cysts are often treated with cortisone injections, the flatness in a couple of days. Large cysts requiring drainage and surgery to remove them. Drainage often relieves some of the pain that comes with cysts and can also help minimize scarring. It is run by a dermatologist, with sterile instruments. It is important not to try to drain cysts same due to potential infection and scarring could result. Light Therapy Light therapy is another method that is sometimes used to combat bacteria that cause acne. It can be especially useful in hard to reach spots, but the effects will not last long because it deals with the production of sebum and dead skin cells. Laser therapy is often effective in treating acne scars. Can be used both surface and deep tissue scarring.
